Ajinomoto Co., Inc. Signs Platinum Sponsor, the highest rank for the 29th SEA Games and the 9th ASEAN Para Games held in Malaysia
First Japanese Company to Become an Official Sponsor of the Games
TOKYO, 14th February, 2017 — Ajinomoto Co., Inc (“Ajinomoto Co.”) today signed an agreement to serve as an official sponsor for the 29th Southeast Asian Games (“SEA Games”) and the 9th ASEAN Para Games scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in August and September, 2017. Ajinomoto Co. provides support for both games, referred to as KUALA LUMPUR 2017, as Platinum Sponsor.
The SEA Games and the ASEAN Para Games are held every two years to help forge strong regional cooperation, understanding and unity within the Southeast Asian community. They are the largest sports events held in Southeast Asia that attracts more than 600 million people in the region. At KUALA LUMPUR 2017, Ajinomoto Co. is the first Japanese company to become an official sponsor for these events, which will be held in Malaysia in the year celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Malaysia.
Since 2003, Ajinomoto Co. has been working on the Victory Project®*1 to support top-level athletes in Japan by providing the Ajinomoto Group’s products and providing nutritional support through Kachimeshi®*2 program. Being an official sponsor for the SEA Games and the ASEAN Para Games gives Ajinomoto Co. opportunities to provide various support through its subsidiaries in the ASEAN region based on a wealth of knowhow on nutritional support for athletes the company has accumulated in Japan.
Ajinomoto Co. has established business bases in Malaysia, the hosting country of this year’s sports events, as well as Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, the Philppines, Singapore, and others, and developed consumer food business in those countries for many years, thus maintaining a close connection with the local food culture. Ajinomoto Co. will expand its support in the sports area in order to further contribute to advances in “food” and “health” for the general public as well as athletes in each country.
